SNMP is an abbreviation of Simple Network Management Protocol is an application-layer protocol that allows the exchange of management information between network devices. It is a part of the TCP/IP family suite. SNMP allows the network administrators to find and solve network problems, and plan for network growth. SNPM also helps the network administrator to manage the network performance.

There are two versions of SNMP exist: SNMP Version 1 (SNMPv1) and SNMP Version 2 (SNMPv2). Both the SNMP versions have a lot of common features, but SNMPv2 offers enhancements, such as additional protocol operations. Yet another Standardize version of SNMP is on a verge to be launched very soon SNMP Version 3 (SNMPv3).
