Adobe Shockwave formerly known as Macromedia Shockwave is a multimedia player program, first developed by Macromedia. It was later acquired by Adobe Systems in 2005. It allows all the applications of the Adobe Director to be published on the Internet and viewed in a web browser on any computer which has the Shockwave plug-in installed.

Unlike Macromedia Flash, the Shockwave browser plug-in is not unavailable for Linux or Solaris despite intense lobbying efforts. Using the crossover or a browser supported in the windows platform the Shockwave Player can be installed on Linux.
